The thesis of Filippo M. Nicoletti is that between photography and design elapses a relationship, open to new and interesting developments. How much photography help design? Is an intervention of product reproduction made in a second moment, after complete the project, or is a fundamental part of communication that must be designed from the beginning?
With these questions, Nicoletti recounts the history of photography related to design or nay the history of the relationship between photography and design from Nineteenth, when photography born (contemporary to design), to nowadays. Thus, traces the interconnections between photography and modern poster (advertising), that comes to life in painting but is soon influenced by photography; or investigates the develops of photography and photomontage in the Historical Avant-garde (in particular Dadaism, Constructivism and Bauhaus); otherwise he focalizes attention to the "pure" representation of the Italian Design made by Aldo Ballo (one of his major interpreters) or to the amused way of Alessi to play, photographically, with the objects. The target is to distill from this work photographic technics due to precise operations applicable to business products in function of their concept. From here, an exhibition that revisit the masters’s technics of
photography and design.
