bombay city of excesses

Arrived at the airport an acrid smell penetrates into the bones, a stench of animal decaying mixed to sandal incense: in this way Bombay welcomes those who decide to explore it.
From Colaba to Dharavi the streets look like veins and each districts is an organ, essential to the survival of a city made up of 14 million souls: everything blends into one being, a delicate balance between the extremes that keeps the city alive.
This project has been developed during a photographic workshop held by Shobha (Contrasto Agency). The topic is inspired by the book “Maximum City. Bombay lost and found” wrote by Suketu Mehta, Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2005. The book is a journalistic analysis about the huge difference between richness and poorness in Bombay, and I tried to describe it following some of the places he describes in his book.
